Weigela

Weigela florida 'Verweig'
My Monet

An artistic new Weigela that grows on 12-18" tall. Colorful green, cream and pink foliage provides season long interest while bright pink blooms in spring are the icing on the cake.

This will plant change the way you think about and use shrubs. This beauty can be used as you would use a low mounding perennial or annual, or use it en mass as a ground cover. The uses are endless and the color is nonstop.

A cool new variety from master nurseryman Bert Verhoef of the Netherlands.

This dwarf masterpiece is a sport of Weigela florida ‘Tango’. Its tight habit and colorful foliage makes it very versatile. Possible applications include an artistic drift along the edge of an annual or perennial bed or an accent piece in an impressionist container. My Monet creates poetic beauty in any landscape and adds a splash of color to semi shady areas.

More Information

Weigela grows best in a sunny location and moist soil. Shaded plants are straggly. Weigela also dislikes crowding. The growth rate is moderate and the shrub transplants well, reaching a mature height of 6 to 9 feet and a spread of 9 to 12 feet. Some annual dieback and winter injury make annual pruning necessary. The flowers are white, pink or red, depending on the cultivar. Plants suffer in the deep south eastern part of the US.

Soil Condition: Acidic, Alkaline, Clay, Loamy, Neutral, Sandy, Slightly alkaline, Well drained, Acidic, Alkaline, Slightly alkaline. Tolerates moderate drought

Pests: Four-lined plant bug makes brown spots on the leaves. Japanese beetle feeds on weigela

Diseases: Bacterial crown gall causes formation of round, warty-looking growths on the lower stems. Leaf spots sometimes attack weigela.
