Giant Pussy Willow is a shrub for big, sunny, moist spaces growing 10 to 12 feet tall and as wide. But if you love the catkins of pussy willows (actually, it is the stamens or male flower parts that make the show), then this one is for you because they are so showy. Emerging from ruby red smooth buds in early spring, the catkins change colors from smoky gray to pinkish to smoky white and grow to 5 or 6 inches long. Whether left on the shrub or brought in as forced branches, this pussy willow ALWAYS attracts attention. Cut the shrub to the ground every 3 years or so to help maintain a more compact shape.
