Ninebark

Physocarpus opulifolius
Summer Wine

An exciting new and improved Ninebark with neat compact branching and fine deeply cut, dark crimson-red leaves. A heavenly hybrid which combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus ‘Nana’ with the dark foliage of Diabolo. This native variety has pinkish-white, button-like flowers in mid-summer. It is very showy and extremely hardy. Prized as a landscape shrub and as a cut flower.

Discriminating gardeners will appreciate the exfoliating bark that peels away to reveal chocolate-colored stems beneath. Exceptionally cold tolerant and thrives on dry soils.

Patent protected variety.  The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag included.  All royalties have been paid.

CPBRAF, USPP #14821; asexual propagation prohibited.

More Information

Physocarpus is a small genus (about 10 species) of shrubs in the Rose family that is gaining attention as new selections with striking foliage arrive on the market. The Spirea-like clusters of small flowers in early summer are an attractive feature as is the peeling bark that develops with age. Average, slightly acid, well-drained soil is best.  Prune old wood and overcrowded branches to the ground.  Fruit litter is not a problem.

Soil Condition: Acidic, Loamy, Neutral, Sandy, Well drained, Acidic
