Rudbeckias like full sun, but they also will do well in partial shade. Plant them in well-drained, not overly rich soil. Remove spent flowers in order to stimulate continuous bloom. Plants will self-seed. If this is not desired, cut the plants back in fall. Rudbeckias are very easy to divide in the spring. They also make great cut flowers. Goldsturm was selected by the Perennial Plant Association as the 1999 perennial of the year. It was selected because it is a reliable performer, heat tolerant, easy to grow and has a good winter effect. The easiest and best way to propagate this plant is to divide the clump in the spring. Goldsturm will grow in all but wet soils. To improve the health and blooming time, remove the spent flowers.
