Narrow, dark green leaves contrast well with flowers. Drought resistant. Slow to emerge in spring. Long blooming, and cutting back after flowering promotes reblooming.

Excellent, popular cultivar of uncertain origin, probably a hybrid of several species. Spreading habit. Floriferous, with a long flowering period. Benefits from winter mulch in cold climates. Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year in 1992.

It is one of easiest to grow and longest blooming perennials. The southern areas of the growing area will have a longer blooming time than those in the north. Mulch for winter protection in the colder zones. Provide shade from the hot afternoon sun in the hot humid zones.
